Fikr Organization for Development and Humanitarian Work participates in the 16th Conference of the Parties (#COP16) under the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (#UNCCD)
This international event, held this year in Riyadh, is the first of its kind in the Middle East. It is considered the largest conference hosted by the Kingdom, taking place from December 2 to 13, 2024. The conference brings together country members, environmental organizations, and stakeholders to discuss global efforts to combat desertification and land degradation under the theme #OurLandOurFuture.
The organization was represented at the conference by Mr. Abdulraouf Al-Yousifi, President of Fikr Organization. During his visit, he, along with Mr. Fouad Abdullah Al-Faqih, Deputy Director of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor – Taiz Governorate, visited the pavilion of international and foreign organizations, industrial companies, UN funds, and research centers. They met with representatives from the Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen and officials from the Saudi Fund for Development. Discussions focused on the possibility of reintroducing funding for Yemen due to the ongoing war and blockade on Yemeni governorates and cities.
The conference, which will last for several days, will address key issues, including enhancing land sustainability initiatives, tackling the effects of climate change, and developing comprehensive strategies for dealing with desertification and drought. It will also review periodic reports on the efforts made by the parties to the convention and the progress made toward achieving its goals.
